I stayed at the Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas at the beginning of October 2024.
I am late writing this post.
I will write hotel posts quicker in the future.
I got the hotel for $180 after taxes which I thought was a good price.
I was originally going to stay in Hollywood.
This was only my second trip to Los Angelas.
I plan to stop in the city more often in the future.
In any case, I was on public.transportation.
After doing my research, I read that when on public transportation, it is best to stay Downtown.
This advice was accurate.
Taking public transportation worked very well.
I really enjoyed staying at the Doubletree too, so here is my review.
Booking the Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas

I booked the Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas with cash.
The hotel was $180 with taxes.
It point’s rate was 46,000.
In general, this hotel can range from 46,000 to 70,000. points
Since the hotel was not expensive, I paid cash.
Right now, I only use Hilton points when the cash price is outrageous.
Hilton points move very fast, so you can rack them up quickly.
I earned 2500 Hilton points for the promotion back then.
Always make sure to sign up for hotel promotions.
You are leaving points on the table, if you are not registered for a promotion.
Here is Hilton’s current promotion.
My monthly flights are usually just one day right now.
They were intended for two days.
One night is fun for me as an AvGeek.
I am sure this might not be ideal for others though.
I will get them to be two days soon.
When I go to the West Coast, I always take a red eye home.
So, my trip to Los Angelas was more like a day and a half.
Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas Location

Grand Central Market photo by Tracy Nicole
If you are interested in staying Downtown, the Doubletree is right around the corner from Union Station in the Little Tokyo neighborhood.
I was not staying in this part of the city to see attractions.
I was using it as my home base to see several sections of the city again.
If staying for attractions., make sure you are near the right one.
The Doubletree is close to Grand Central Market and Angel’s Flight.
Downtown Los Angelas is generally cheaper than other parts of the city.
At first, after I did the research, I read negative comments about staying in the area.
So, I was against staying there.
I am glad I changed my mind.
I had never been Downtown.
I learned something new about L.A.
I had arrived to Union Station from LAX on the FlyAway Bus.
The hotel was a quick ten minute walk from Union Station.
Keep in mind that most people recommend that tourist stay in Hollywood or West Hollywood though.
Los Angleas is spread out and a car centric city.
Most of the major tourist attractions that the average person comes to see are closer to those areas.
Again, I found Downtown to be a good jumping off point with public transportation.
I had stayed in Hollywood at the W Hotel on my first trip to Los Angelas.
Just note that Los Angelas’ Downtown is not like New York or Chicago.
There are not people walking around, especially at night.
Since there are not many people walking around this section of Downtown, maybe you want an Uber.
If you are driving, please find out if it is safe to park your car in the area.
I read sketchy stuff about parking garages.
I know this is true of San Francisco too though.
Make sure to stay away from areas like Skid Row though.
Always do your research on sites like reddit to see people’s personal experience near your hotel though.
Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas Lobby and Check in

Check in was a breeze.
There was no line.
I arrived around noon.
Official check in was at 3 p.m.
Though I currently have no Hilton status, I find that chains give me a room early if available.
I had Hilton Gold status for 8 years.
I plan to get Diamond status later with the Aspire card.
I want to get my new Chase 5/24 cards first.
I got the famous Doubletree cookie.
I told the hotel worker that I loved Doubletree cookies.
So, she gave me two more cookies.
Then, I went up to my room, and got rest.
I had taken a 5:30 a.m. Delta flight to L.A. with a connection in Atlanta from my city.
So, it was still quite early.
I rested for an hour.
Then, I walked to the famous Grand Central Market.
I enjoyed a nice meal there.
I walked past attractions like the Angel’s Flight.
Because it is in Little Tokyo and near Grand Central Market, there are plenty of restaurant options.
Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas Guest Room and Bathroom

The room was what I have come to expect of the Doubletree brand.
That was a good thing on this cross country trip.
I wanted the familiar.
The king bed was flanked by two modern nightstands.
There was also a desk and chair.
The reviews said the room was dated, but I found it ok.
The carpet looked a little dated, but this did not affect my experience.
I think the hotel will need a renovation in the future though.
It was still a pleasant, clean room.
That was all I wanted.
Keep in mind that rooms in L.A. are not huge though.
So, be prepared wherever you stay.
This is a complaint I read all over the city.
The bathroom contained a walk in shower.
In the shower were toiletries by Crabtree & Evelyn as usual at Doubletree hotels.
Doubletree Restaurant and Other Facilities

Justice Urban Tavern Restaurant photo by Tracy Nicole
The restaurant is called Justice Urban Tavern.
I did not use it.
I hear it is popular with the locals though
This hotel was huge.
It had more features than the average hotel.
There was an indoor garden.
There was an art gallery.
I did not have time to check most of this out.
There was a small section where you can buy snacks and drinks.
As usual, stores like Walgreens will usually be cheaper than this.
I got all my beverages across the street at 7 Eleven.
There was a fridge in the room again
Doubletree Gym

The Doubletree gym was adequate with plenty of treadmills and other equipment.
There were also plenty of free weights.
I was not working out, but if you plan to, the gym is adequate again.
Summary
I enjoyed my stay at the Doubletree Downtown Los Angelas in October.
The price was perfect at $180 after taxes.
Most people prefer Hollywood or West Hollywood.
On public transportation, the location was ideal for my trip.
I could walk to several subways.
I took the subway to Hollywood and Santa Monica.
II had never been to Downtown, so I got a new perspective on Los Angelas again.
On other visits, I will stay in other areas of the city like Hollywood, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica.,
I was skeptical of choosing Downtown because of it’s questionable reputation.
You will save money by staying in Downtown, but Hollywood can be gotten for only $50 more.
So,Hollywood may still be the better option.
My plan is to stay in a different sections of Los Angelas each time I visit.
On my next visit, I will probably stay in Hollwoood/West Hollywood.
After that, I would like to stay in Santa Monica.
If the location fits my needs again, I would definitely stay here again.
As usual, if this post was useful, share it below on social media.
